How can a son, who has been greatly wronged by his father, along with his family, and whose father's brothers aided him in this wrongdoing, maintain ties with him, especially after the son's previous attempts to do so? What is the Sharia ruling in this case?
A Muslim must respond to the command of Allah and His Messenger. Allah has commanded kindness to parents, even if they mistreat [their children] or call to shirk (polytheism). One must accompany them with kindness. If the son fears harm, he should limit his interaction to what does not cause him harm. The father must care for his children. If the father mistreats [his son], then patience and forgiveness are better for the son, for this is a trial from Allah.
