Is it permissible for the one being led in prayer to perform the sitting of rest independently if the Imam does not perform it?

The resting session (jalsat al-istiraha) is a Sunnah. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded following the Imam, which means that the worshiper should begin the actions of prayer immediately after the Imam finishes what he was doing. If the Imam does not perform the resting session, scholars differ on whether it is better for the worshiper to sit or not. Some held that the worshiper should sit for it because the divergence is minor, while others held that the worshiper should not sit for it, and that following the Imam takes precedence. The stronger opinion is that following the Imam takes precedence over lagging behind to perform a recommended act.
