What is the ruling on speaking with a non-mahram woman during the day and night of Ramadan?

Islam forbids any relationship between the sexes outside the framework of marriage. There is no concept in Islam of a 'girlfriend' or a 'female friend'; rather, it considers such relationships to be subtle obscenities. Speaking softly to women is the beginning of forbidden relationships that may lead to falling into vice. Therefore, speaking to a woman by calling her a 'female friend' or 'girlfriend' is absolutely impermissible, and the sin is amplified if it occurs during Ramadan. However, the fast itself remains valid, though its reward is diminished.
