The answer

It is not permissible for a husband to allow his wife to study in a co-educational school if the mixing within it is forbidden (haram); because he is responsible for her before Allah, and he must encourage her to perform acts of obedience and prevent her from forbidden acts, based on the words of Allah Almighty: "O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire" and the hadith: "Each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible for his flock."

The wife's family must assist the husband in this and not incite her to disobedience, for Allah Almighty says: "And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression." Furthermore, their attempts to weaken the relationship between the spouses are considered a sin as they fall under the meaning of takhbib (incitement/corruption), which is prohibited.

The husband is advised to try and convince his wife of the seriousness of the matter, and to seek assistance from sensible people and righteous individuals from her family.
