What is the ruling on one who swore an oath not to return to masturbation, then returned and did so several times, and paid expiation for his oath to one needy person in a single payment? Does he complete the remaining days, or does he start the expiation anew? And does he expiate for each oath, or is it considered one oath? And what is the ruling on paying the expiation for Dhihar to one person in a single payment?

If you did not utter the صيغة of the oath but merely resolved within yourself not to commit the sin, then no expiation is due from you. However, if you uttered the صيغة of the oath and then broke it, then you must perform an expiation for breaking an oath (كفارة يمين) by feeding ten poor persons, or clothing them, or freeing a slave. If you are unable to do so, then you must fast for three days. It is not permissible to give the expiation to a single poor person; rather, it must be given to ten poor persons.

If you repeatedly swear oaths and then break them, then each oath requires a separate expiation. However, if you only broke the oath once after repeating the oaths, the majority of scholars hold that only one expiation is required.

Regarding expiation for intercourse: if your intercourse with your wife was after the cessation of her menstruation but before she performed ghusl, then it is unlawful, but no expiation is required. If it was during menstruation, it is also unlawful, and some scholars say that a sadaqah of one dinar is required. What you paid as expiation for intercourse with your wife does not suffice for the expiation of an oath, as intention is a condition for the validity of expiation.
