Is there a book for every prophet and messenger?

The Quran indicates that every messenger was sent with a book, as in the Almighty's saying: "We have already sent Our messengers with clear evidences and sent down with them the Scripture and the balance." Scholars have mentioned that the sending down of a book differentiates between a Messenger (Rasul) and a Prophet (Nabi); a Messenger has a book sent down to him, whereas a Prophet does not.

Belief in the Books is summarized in five points: 1. Belief that they are truly from Allah. 2. Affirming the truth of their reports. 3. Adhering to their rulings unless abrogated, knowing that the rulings of previous Books have been abrogated by the Quran. 4. Belief in the names that are known among them, such as the Torah, the Gospel, the Quran, the Psalms (Zabur), and the scriptures of Abraham and Moses. 5. Belief that every Messenger was sent with a book.

As for belief in the Messengers, it entails four matters: 1. Belief that their message is truly from Allah the Almighty. 2. Belief in those whose names are known among them (such as Muhammad, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Noah). 3. Affirming the truth of whatever authentic reports are related about them. 4. Acting upon the law of the one among them who was sent to us, who is their seal, Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
