Is benefiting from seeking forgiveness in this world, as mentioned in the Holy Quran, contingent upon one of the three matters mentioned in the Hadith: "There is no Muslim who makes a supplication in which there is no sin or severing of kinship ties, but that Allah will grant him one of three things: either He will hasten his supplication for him, or He will store it for him in the Hereafter, or He will avert from him an equivalent amount of evil"?

There is no contradiction between what is stated in the verses regarding the attainment of blessings and offspring through seeking forgiveness (istighfar), and the attainment of forgiveness, averting of tribulation, or storing up of reward through it. Seeking forgiveness is a form of remembrance (dhikr) and supplication (du'a). It brings the reward of remembrance, and it brings what supplication brings, such as the descent of rain, abundance of wealth and offspring, the averting of tribulation, or the attainment of reward in the Hereafter. Therefore, the one who engages in it will not be disappointed, just as is the case with the supplicant. The exegetes mentioned that Noah (peace be upon him) encouraged his people to believe and seek forgiveness when he observed their eagerness for worldly life, explaining to them that in obedience to Allah lies the attainment of both this world and the Hereafter.
