The answer

Intoxicants and narcotics, including opium, are forbidden by religious law, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) sayings: "Every intoxicant is forbidden" and "I forbid every intoxicant." An intoxicant is that which impairs the mind. Planting fruit-bearing trees for narcotics, such as hashish and poppy, is unanimously forbidden, whether for consumption or trade. Selling them is forbidden to Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Whoever sells grapes to someone who will use them to make wine has been threatened with hellfire.
