What should I do concerning my father who eats in front of the television, and if music plays, I do not have the courage to turn off the sound or the television? Is my age considered an excuse for me not to change this reprehensible act?

Satellite channels are not free of objectionable and corrupting elements. The principle regarding the denunciation of evil (munkar) is that it is a collective obligation (fard kifaya). It may become an individual obligation (fard ayn) if certain conditions are met, including that the evil must be legally prohibited by Islamic law, currently occurring, manifest, and not a matter of scholarly disagreement among mujtahids. Lack of courage in denouncing evil is a blameworthy cowardice, and the obligation to denounce evil is not waived due to fear of harm. Young age or the fact that the one committing the evil is a parent does not waive the obligation to denounce it; rather, it intensifies it, though with a different approach, which involves gentleness, kindness, and leniency. This should not exceed the levels of becoming acquainted with the evil and informing about it. Jurists have differed on what goes beyond that, such as breaking instruments used for evil or removing prohibited items. Al-Ghazali permitted this, while others prohibited it. The majority view is that the obligation to denounce evil is waived if it is highly probable that it will not be accepted, though its recommendation remains. It is not permissible for a child to listen to singing even if their parent orders them to, and they must denounce it by leaving the gathering if they do not turn off the television.
