Is it permissible for a woman who came from Egypt to visit her daughter in Jeddah and wishes to perform Umrah to enter into a state of ihram from Jeddah, knowing that she did not enter into ihram from Egypt and has resided in Jeddah for three days?
If a woman comes to Jeddah to visit her daughter, and then intends to perform Umrah while she is in Jeddah, she should assume ihram from Jeddah. However, if she comes to Jeddah with the intention of performing Umrah, and she is required to assume ihram from the miqat (Rabigh for the people of Egypt), then if she violates this and does not assume ihram from the miqat, she must return to it and assume ihram from there. If she assumes ihram after passing the miqat, she must offer a sacrifice (dam). The majority of scholars hold the view that whoever passes their miqat without assuming ihram, while intending to perform a ritual, must offer a sacrifice, unless they return to the miqat and assume ihram from there, in which case nothing is required of them.
