What is the ruling on national pride, such as saying "Saudi and I am proud," and what are its controls, and can such phrases be a cause for arrogance or tribalism, especially with the spread of social media?

The fatwa in question considered the intention of the person who uttered the phrase to express his love and admiration for his Muslim homeland, rather than the apparent meaning of the word "I am proud" and what it entails of arrogance and boastfulness. Pride and boasting are blameworthy, and a Muslim should say "and no pride" (ولا فخر) as the Prophet, peace be upon him, did, who said: "I am the master of the children of Adam on the Day of Resurrection, and no pride (ولا فخر)..." By this, he meant that he did not say it out of boastfulness, but rather as an acknowledgment of Allah's favor and a declaration of His blessings.
