Is a woman's beautification for her suitor—including styling and combing her hair and grooming her eyebrows—considered deception, or is it an adornment encouraged by Islamic law? And to what extent does the fatwa take into account contemporaneity and changing customs, by analogy with Imam Al-Shafi’i’s ijtihad in changing his jurisprudential methodology?

The immutable texts of the Quran and Sunnah do not change or alter with the changing times. The changes in some opinions by Imam Al-Shafi'i and other scholars were in matters of speculative ijtihad (independent reasoning), not in immutable matters. It is not for later generations to annul the established principles of the religion that were affirmed by their predecessors. Sharia has become vulnerable to the ignorant, fulfilling the prophecy of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Indeed, Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people, but He takes away knowledge by taking away the scholars, so that when He has not left any scholar, people take ignorant individuals as their leaders. They are asked, and they give rulings without knowledge. So they go astray and lead others astray." It is obligatory to refer to specialists in every field.
