Do some scholars believe that Abraham (peace be upon him) comes after the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in status, based on the narration: "Indeed, for every prophet among the prophets there are guardians, and verily, my guardian among the prophets is my father, Abraham, the Beloved of Allah," and other signs such as the resemblance between them, their being the Beloved Ones of the Most Merciful, their mention in the prayer, their meeting in the Mi'raj, the Prophet naming his son Abraham, and Allah's command to follow Abraham? And what is the authenticity of the aforementioned narration?

The best of the Prophets is our Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, followed by Ibrahim, the Khalil (intimate friend) of the Most Merciful. Some scholars have reported a consensus on this. Allah Almighty has informed us that He took Ibrahim as a Khalil, and this station has not been affirmed for anyone else among humankind except for our Prophet Muhammad and Ibrahim, peace be upon them.

A hadith has been reported: "Indeed, every Prophet has allies among the Prophets, and my ally is my father and the Khalil of my Lord, Ibrahim." Then he recited the verse: "Indeed, the most worthy of people to Ibrahim are those who followed him, and this Prophet, and those who believed. And Allah is the protector of the believers." This hadith's chain of narration is disputed among scholars; some have authenticated it, while others have weakened it due to its discontinuity. Some believe that it has other connected narrations that strengthen it.

The meaning of the hadith is that every Prophet has beloved ones and companions among the Prophets who are most worthy of him, and that the ally and Khalil of the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is Ibrahim, peace be upon him. And the most worthy of people to Ibrahim are those who followed him in his time, and the Prophet Muhammad, and those of his nation who believed.
