Is it permissible to draw illustrative pictures of the horrors of the Hereafter, such as the Scrolls (or Records), the Scale, and the Bridge (As-Sirat), for the purpose of Dawah (inviting others to Islam), and using symbolic cartooning?

It is not permissible to create illustrative or symbolic cartoon images of what is in the Afterlife due to the accompanying concerns, including:

Undertaking what we have no knowledge of, and Allah Almighty says: "And do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge." We do not know the nature of Paradise or Hell. As Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen said: "This is not permissible, because we do not know their nature." The realities of the unseen cannot be conceived, let alone depicted. The removal of the awe of these matters from the hearts of those being called to Islam, and the departure of the awe of the Last Day from people's souls. Allah has instilled awe for this Day in people's souls so that they may be deterred.

Therefore, it is necessary to suffice with verbal descriptions, as that is sufficient. Preachers should restrict themselves to permissible means, and guidance thereafter is in the hands of Allah.
