What should the wife do if the husband wants to divorce her because she suffers from epilepsy, and he accuses her of deception for not informing him of her condition even once before marriage, knowing that they have a daughter and that she suspects he is bewitched, and they are in two different countries?

Epilepsy is considered a defect that necessitates disclosure during engagement and can be grounds for annulling the marriage contract. If the wife was afflicted with it before marriage and the husband was not informed, the husband has the right to annul the marriage. However, if she contracted it and then recovered, there is no obligation to inform him.

If the husband knew about the illness and consented to it, the marriage becomes binding, and he has no right to annul it. If he wishes to divorce her, he may do so, and she can try to dissuade him by waiving some of her rights. Allah (the Most High) says: "And if a woman fears from her husband desertion or evasion, there is no sin upon them if they make terms of settlement between them - and settlement is best." It is advisable to seek treatment for epilepsy from specialists. If the husband is enchanted (affected by magic), he should regularly recite the prescribed remembrances (adhkar) and Islamic incantations (ruqya shar'iyya).
