How can one get rid of heart diseases such as arrogance, conceit, and mockery, which lead to estrangement from God and people, and the fear of polytheism and disbelief?
A servant should recognize the might and grace of their Lord, and that all blessings and talents they possess are from Allah alone. If one truly understands their own imperfections and realizes that if Allah were to abandon them to themselves, they would be left to weakness and sin, then they would humble themselves before Allah and show modesty towards people.
One must also be aware of the danger of arrogance and the fate of the arrogant, as Allah Almighty says: "O you who have believed, let not a people ridicule [another] people; perhaps they may be better than them; nor let women ridicule [other] women; perhaps they may be better than them. And do not insult one another and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after [one's] faith. And whoever does not repent — then it is those who are the wrongdoers."
It is important to distinguish between arrogance and self-respect. It is recommended to read books such as "Mukhtasar Minhaj Al-Qasidin," "Madarij Al-Salikin," and "Al-Zawajir 'an Iqtiraf Al-Kaba'ir" concerning the chapters on the condemnation of arrogance, conceit, and the praise of humility.
