The basic ruling regarding divorce is permissibility. A wife is not obligated, according to Sharia, to breastfeed her child unless it is the only option for her. A husband has the right to prevent his wife from working unless this was stipulated in the marriage contract; otherwise, she is considered disobedient (nashiz). The husband is advised to try to reach an understanding with his wife to avoid discord and separation, given its negative effects on the children.
