Is it permissible for a woman to request a divorce while retaining all her rights, if her husband compels her to spend half her salary on the household, prevents her from working if she does not comply, does not spend on her or the house, and sometimes forcibly takes her entire salary and her wedding gift money?

A woman has independent financial rights, allowing her to own and dispose of her wealth as she wishes. It is impermissible for anyone else to take from it except with her consent. The husband is obligated to spend on his wife, even if she is wealthy. He is not permitted to take anything from her salary if he stipulated her working at the time of marriage or consented to it. However, if he did not stipulate or consent to her working, he has the right to prevent her from working or to agree on a portion of her income. The wife's maintenance does not lapse with time and includes food, drink, clothing, and medicine. As for wedding gifts (nuqut al-urs), they are handled according to custom. Whatever custom dictates belongs to the wife is her private property. It is advisable to involve someone to counsel the husband, and if he persists in taking what is unlawful for him, the wife has the right to seek divorce.
