Is it authentically reported from the the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he said: "By My Might and My Majesty, I shall surely cut off the hope of everyone who places their hope in other than Me with despair"?

Al-Bayhaqi narrated in Shu'ab al-Iman a story that happened to Bahdala ibn Numayr when his provisions became scarce. One of the ascetics gave him hope, telling him not to hope in anyone other than Allah, citing what was mentioned in some books of the Torah: "By My might, My majesty, My generosity, and My grace, I shall cut off the hope of every one who hopes in other than Me with despair, and I shall clothe him in the garment of humiliation, and I shall turn him away from My door, and I shall cast him out from My connection... Who is it that knocked at My door and I did not open for him? Who is it that called upon Me and I did not answer him? Who is it that asked Me and I did not give to him?" Abu Nu'aym also mentioned this story in Al-Hilya.

This story is not attributed to the Prophet, peace be upon him, but rather taken from the corrupted books of the Children of Israel. It is permissible to speak of what is in it, provided that it is not stated with certainty, does not contain strangeness, does not contradict an established principle, and is not attributed to the Prophet, peace be upon him, but rather to those books. However, the soul is not at ease with the authenticity of this narration due to its strangeness, and what is established in the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, peace be upon him, suffices, such as His saying, the Most High: (Is not He Who answers the distressed one when he calls on Him, and Who removes the evil?), and His saying, peace be upon him, in what he narrates from his Lord: "I am as My servant thinks of Me."
