What is the description of the food for expiation for feeding a needy person and its measure? Is it permissible to give its value in money or to give it to a single needy person? Is it necessary for the expiation to be on the same day as the missed fast?

The amount of expiation (fidyah) obligatory for one who delays making up for Ramadan until another Ramadan overtakes them is one mudd of food for each day. The measure of one mudd is approximately 750 grams of rice. This is the view of Al-Shafi'i. It is permissible to give the fidyah to a single needy person. It is also permissible for the feeding to take place before making up the fast, or after it, or concurrently with it.
