The expiation for delaying the making up of Ramadan fasts is to give out a mudd of food (approximately 750 grams) for each day. It is more cautious to give out half a saa’ (one and a half kilograms) for each day. This should be given to the poor and needy. It is permissible to give the expiation to a guard if he does not have enough to cover his essential needs and the needs of those he is obliged to support. It is sufficient to give the expiation to twenty poor people or to one poor person.
