What are the practical steps to achieve tawakkul (reliance on God), and how can one attain the station of tawakkul of the siddiqin (truthful ones), with clarification of the concept of benefit and harm coming from Allah and from creation, and how to entrust affairs and rely on Allah wholeheartedly?

Tawakkul (reliance on God) is the knowledge of the Lord's sufficiency for His servant. It is achieved through certain knowledge that everything belongs to Allah alone, that He is the disposer of affairs in the world, along with the vastness of His mercy towards His servant. When the servant knows that Allah is rich, powerful, and merciful, and that nothing can prevent Him from bringing about what is beneficial for him, he entrusts his affairs to his Lord, certain of His excellent management, and that Allah's choice for him is better than his own choice for himself, as Allah Almighty said: ﴿وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ﴾ (And Allah knows, while you know not). As for ignorance of Tawhid (monotheism), it is treated by learning and reading Al-Ashqar's series on Aqidah (creed). People are merely means, and benefit and harm come from them by Allah's creation and decree. Allah is the Creator of the cause and the effect, and He has created for them will, ability, and intention. Thanking those who do good to us is permissible, but the heart must turn to the fact that the ultimate Cause is Allah alone. Tawakkul is not merely a verbal statement; rather, it is an inner state achieved by the heart. If Allah becomes aware of your heart's entrustment to Him, you will not need to say it verbally. And you must realize the meaning of ﴿إِيَّاكَ نَعْبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسْتَعِينُ﴾ (You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help), so seek help from none but Allah, knowing that none brings good deeds or repels evil deeds except Him, glorified be He.
