What is the ruling on working for a company that provides energy from oil and gas, and supplies ships with them, knowing that the nature of the work involves calculating station accounts and exporting gas?
Companies are not free from one of three situations: 1. Companies whose core business is prohibited: Such as interest-based banks and alcoholic beverage companies; working for them is forbidden. 2. Companies whose core business is permissible: Such as factories, transportation companies, and oil companies; working for them is permissible. 3. Companies whose core business is permissible, but they also have other prohibited activities: It is permissible to work for them only in the permissible field.
So, if the aforementioned company falls under either the second or third categories, there is no objection to working for it, provided one refrains from any prohibited work within it and performs the rest of the permissible tasks.
