Does reliance upon God avert a decreed fate or bring it about according to one's will? And does "sufficiency and protection" in reliance upon God mean His ordainment of good, even if it comes in the form of adversity, given that the ultimate outcome is for those who rely upon Him? And how can one reconcile God's protection of His prophets with the harm that befell them?

Reliance on Allah is one of the greatest means to repel harm and attain what is desired. It does not contradict taking means; rather, it is one of the greatest means. Scriptural texts and events from the Prophet's biography indicate that whoever truly relies on Allah, Allah will suffice him and protect him. Allah suffices the one who relies on Him, fulfills His command, and has ordained a measure for everything. The fulfillment of Allah's promises to the believers occurs according to what divine wisdom necessitates, including trials and purification. Furthermore, the infallibility of the Prophet, peace be upon him, from people means the infallibility of his heart, his faith, and his conveying of his message, not the infallibility of his body from affliction and harm.
