Is it permissible to name a child "Sirin," knowing that it is a foreign name and that "Sirin" was the sister of Maria al-Qibtiyya, whom al-Muqawqis gifted to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and whom the Prophet then gifted to Hassan ibn Thabit? Is this name exclusive to Maria and Sirin? And must the name of a newborn girl be changed if she is named this?

It is permissible to name a girl "Sirin," as the Muqawqis, king of Egypt, gifted two slave girls to the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. One was Maria, the mother of Ibrahim, and the other was her sister, Sirin, whom the Prophet bestowed upon Hassan ibn Thabit. Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar and Ibn Abd al-Barr mentioned her among the Companions, and she narrated a hadith from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Had the name been disliked, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would have changed it.
