Is it permissible for a wife to seek divorce from her husband who has abandoned her, treated her badly, deprived her of life's necessities and medical treatment, and reneged on his promise to provide for her after selling the house, despite her suffering from a severe illness, in addition to his attempt to marry the maid under these circumstances?
The husband is responsible for the medical expenses of his wife and all other necessities and needs, according to what is customary. If part of the house that was sold to purchase the two apartments belonged to the wife, then she has a share of the rental income from the two apartments commensurate with her wealth, and the husband is not permitted to withhold it from her. A husband abandoning his wife is forbidden in Islamic law. As for his marriage to another woman, there is no objection to it, provided there is justice and the ability to fulfill the duties of both wives. It is advisable to be patient and gentle in counseling the husband, and if matters become difficult, one can seek assistance from someone who holds influence with him.
