What is the ruling on shortening the prayer for a traveler who is visiting his family in another city, approximately two hundred and fifty kilometers away from his place of residence and work, and is he required to shorten the prayer for the entire duration of the visit?

It is permissible for a traveler to shorten the prayer (qasr) if the distance of his journey is approximately 83 kilometers and the journey is lawful. If the traveler reaches his destination, he may still shorten the prayer if his stay is less than four days, or if he does not have a wife with whom he has consummated marriage in that place, or if that town is not his homeland. However, if the duration of his stay is four days or more, or if he has a wife with whom he has consummated marriage there, or if that town is his homeland, then he is not allowed to shorten the prayer; rather, he must perform the prayer in full.
