How can the addict who chose the path of addiction be considered afflicted by God?

Every affliction that befalls a servant occurs by Allah's decree, and this affliction may have causes that Allah has ordained. If the cause of the affliction is forbidden, the servant is held accountable for engaging in it, such as an alcoholic or drug addict. Their sin brings them affliction in this world and the Hereafter, because they committed it by their own choice. The addict must repent to Allah; if they repent, the affliction becomes a calamity that expiates their sins and raises their ranks. However, before repentance, they are blameworthy. Citing divine decree is beneficial after repentance and the removal of sin, to become an affirmation of monotheism and an acknowledgment of Allah's power. However, citing it before repentance is rejected, like the polytheists' citing it for their polytheism.
