Is he who feels whispers of pleasure upon hearing news of sins, despite wishing Muslims to avoid them, sinful, citing the verse: "Indeed, those who like that immorality should spread among those who have believed will have a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. And Allah knows and you do not know"?

Speaking about sins in Muslim lands has different aspects. If it is for a noble goal, such as inviting to Allah and enjoining good, then it is commendable to the extent that it achieves its purpose. However, if it is for mere conversation, then it is blameworthy because it is idle talk and leads to harms, including:

1. Despising people and being arrogant towards them: It may lead to conceit about one's deeds, which is the root of ruin, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When a man says, 'The people are ruined,' he is the one who has ruined them." (Narrated by Muslim). What is meant here is someone who says it out of contempt and self-admiration, not someone who says it out of sorrow and grief. 2. Hardening of the heart: Excessive mention of evil deeds hardens the heart, especially if the talk is about immorality and obscenities. 3. Losing the hatred for evil from the heart: Frequent mention of obscenities may lead to belittling them, and perhaps even committing them.

As for rejoicing at the spread of corruption, it is an unhealthy feeling, while sorrow over it is obligatory. Rejoicing that one is free from these sins is permissible if it is out of gratitude to Allah, as He Almighty says: "Say, 'In the bounty of Allah and in His mercy - in that let them rejoice; it is better than what they they accumulate.'" (Yunus: 58). However, if it is out of insolence, arrogance, and self-admiration, then it is not permissible.

Muslim gatherings should be invested in what pleases Allah, and one must beware of the steps of Satan that push towards delving into falsehood. Meeting with brothers is divided into two categories: meeting for the purpose of pleasing one's nature and passing time, which is harmful, corrupts the heart, and wastes time; and meeting for the purpose of cooperating on the means of salvation and enjoining truth, which is great and beneficial, but has three afflictions: some beautifying themselves for others, excessive talk and mixing, and it becoming a desire and a habit that distracts from the intended purpose.
