What are the characteristics of the "pious woman" that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, urged to seek in the context of marriage? Does this include one who limits herself to performing obligatory duties, or one who wears a face-revealing hijab, or a niqab that shows the eyes?
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, advised marrying a woman of faith (dhat al-din), who is characterized by the following traits:
1. Good Belief: She should be from the Ahl al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah (People of the Sunnah and the Community), as an innovator (sahibat al-bida') is not considered a woman of faith. 2. Obedience to Her Husband: She does not disobey him if he commands what is right, obeys him when he commands, pleases him when he looks at her, and does not contradict him concerning herself or his property in what he dislikes. 3. Assisting Her Husband in His Religion: She commands him to perform acts of obedience and prevents him from forbidden things. 4. Righteousness: She is obedient to her Lord and fulfills her husband's rights regarding his property and herself, even in his absence. 5. Good Manners and Knowledge. 6. Performing Acts of Obedience and Abstaining from Forbidden Things. 7. Worship and Fasting: She is a Muslim, a believer, devout, penitent, worshipping, and "sā'iḥah" (fasting).
A woman of faith is she who preserves her husband's religion for him, assists him in his afterlife, pleases him when he looks at her, protects him in his absence, and raises his children with the best upbringing.
