Is it permissible to delay the wedding night until after completing university studies for fear of pregnancy?

The Shariah has not specified a particular period between the marriage contract (aqd) and consummation (bina). The reference for this is the custom (urf) and what the spouses agree upon. It is permissible to postpone consummation if the spouses agree to it. However, if either or both of them fear falling into haram (unlawful acts) due to the postponement, then consummation must be hastened.
