The question

Should I act according to Fatwa No. 161688 regarding my divorce not having occurred, based on the presumption of obsessive doubts, even if I was not suffering from obsessive doubts about divorce at that time? And is there any blame upon me for retracting from the fatwa in the fifth case, knowing that I have recently learned of a difference of opinion among scholars regarding the permissibility of retraction, and that one afflicted with obsessive doubts may adopt the easiest of opinions to alleviate hardship?

The answer

We ask Allah to cure you of the whispers (waswasa), and we advise you to supplicate, remember Allah (dhikr), and perform ruqyah as prescribed by Islamic law. Fatwa no. 161688 pertains to the divorce of one afflicted by waswasa; if you were not affected by waswasa at the time of the divorce, then it does not apply to you. However, if you strongly believe you were afflicted by waswasa and doubt has now arisen, do not pay attention to this doubt. We also advise you not to repeat questions about the same incident, as this strengthens the waswasa, and the best cure for it is to disregard it.
