How is it possible to deal with a wife who is characterized by stubbornness, arrogance, and domination, uses a rude manner in dealing, refuses obedience, neglects her household duties, and refuses marital intimacy, especially after resorting to admonition then abandonment, leading to non-brutal beating, with attempts to involve her family proving fruitless, and all of this without a desire for divorce?

Spouses must live together in kindness. The wife must obey her husband and speak to him gently. If a wife behaves badly or refuses to obey her husband in bed, she is disobedient and rebellious. The husband has the right to discipline her through admonition, then by abandoning her in bed, and then by striking her without causing injury. He must also engage in dialogue with her, even if she does not admit her mistake, while reminding himself of the Prophet's (peace be upon him) admonition regarding women, and to be patient with her if he dislikes a certain trait, for he may be pleased with another.
