What should a believer do if he sometimes feels that God does not love him, due to the many circumstances and worries he is experiencing, and feels that God is not helping him with them, and the matter may even reach the point of hatred?
If the feeling of hating Allah is merely a passing thought, then, Allah willing, it does no harm, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, Allah has forgiven my Ummah for whatever occurs to their innermost thoughts, as long as they do not act upon it or speak of it." However, if the matter reaches the point of settling and being content with hating Allah, then this is a grave danger and is considered among the nullifiers of faith, because the love of Allah is the most precious treasure, and losing it is the greatest loss. The servant who is afflicted by calamities must know that he is the cause of them due to his sins, and he must repent and return to Allah, and not blame his Lord. To understand the reasons for loving Allah, one can review the following points: pondering the Qur'an, drawing closer through supererogatory acts after obligatory ones, continuous remembrance, preferring what Allah loves over one's own desires, reflecting on His names and attributes, observing His blessings, the heart's brokenness before Him, being alone with Him in the last third of the night, accompanying the truthful, and distancing oneself from everything that obstructs the heart from Allah.
