It is forbidden to use gold and silver utensils for eating and drinking, based on the Prophet's (peace be upon him) saying: "Do not drink in vessels of gold and silver, nor eat in their plates, for they are for them [the disbelievers] in this world and for you in the Hereafter," and his saying: "He who eats and drinks in vessels of gold and silver is only gurgling the fire of Hell in his stomach." As for applying kohl with a gold or silver stick, it is permissible out of necessity, and it has been mentioned that it brightens and strengthens the eyes and benefits them against diseases.
