The darbuka (goblet drum) is an instrument of entertainment about which scholars have differed. The Malikis permit its use in celebrations, while the Shafi'is deem it forbidden and consider it the "kubah" (drum) that is prohibited by Islamic law. The more preponderant opinion is the prohibition of the darbuka (kubah) in marriage ceremonies and other occasions, because the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade it along with intoxicants and gambling. He only permitted the duff (frame drum) for marriage.
