Is it permissible to go to work in Afghanistan—without being compelled to do so—if the work provides material and professional benefits to the individual, contributes to the country’s infrastructure, and is authorized by the current authorities?

The basic principle is the permissibility of engaging in lawful work and traveling through the land, even if one is not compelled by necessity, based on the Almighty’s saying: "It is He who made the earth subservient to you, so walk among its regions and eat from His provision. And to Him is the resurrection."

There is no religious impediment to traveling for work in Afghanistan or other Muslim countries, provided that it does not involve disobedience, harm, or the neglect of rights. The traveler may even be rewarded if their intention is to benefit the poor and the needy, based on the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) saying: "Whoever relieves a Muslim of a distress from the distresses of this world, Allah will relieve him of a distress from the distresses of the Day of Resurrection. And whoever makes things easy for one who is in difficulty, Allah will make things easy for him in this world and the Hereafter. And whoever conceals (the faults of) a Muslim, Allah will conceal his (faults) in this world and the Hereafter. Allah is in the aid of His servant as long as the servant is in the aid of his brother."
