Can a human being speak to Allah in this world, whether directly or through inspiration? And did the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "Indeed, among my Ummah are inspired ones, and Umar is one of them," or "Indeed, there are inspired ones among my Ummah, and Umar is one of them"?

Allah cannot speak to anyone in this world after the cessation of revelation and the sealing of prophethood with Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. This is based on His saying: "Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets," and His saying: "It is not for any human being that Allah should speak to him except by revelation or from behind a veil or by sending a messenger to reveal by His permission whatever He wills. Indeed, He is Exalted in Might and Wise."

As for inspiration (ilham), glad tidings (mubashshirat), and being divinely inspired (tahdeeth), these are possible and have occurred to some members of the Ummah after the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, as in the hadith: "Indeed, among the nations before you were divinely inspired individuals (muhaddathoon). If there is anyone among my Ummah, it is 'Umar ibn al-Khattab." This is what some call "kashf" (unveiling), but kashf can happen to both the righteous and the wicked. Therefore, a person's righteousness cannot be judged by it unless their beliefs and conduct are presented to the Sharia. If their creed is sound and their conduct is upright, then it is a karamah (divine favor). If their creed is corrupt or their conduct deviates, then it is an istidraj (a gradual drawing into error).
