What is the ruling of Islamic law regarding a husband who finds no pleasure with his wife due to his practice of masturbation and watching pornography, in addition to his failure to observe prayers and his suffering from severe distress and insomnia at night?

In Islam, marriage has great purposes, the most important of which is the chastity of both spouses. The husband must treat his wife with kindness and engage in sexual intercourse with her, as it is one of her most emphasized rights. The minimum is that he should have intercourse with her once every period of purity if he is able. He will be rewarded for this, even if he does not have desire. We have an excellent example in the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, who used to be affectionate with his wives and treat them kindly. Affection and foreplay with one's wife contribute to marital happiness.

The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, advised Uthman ibn Maz'un to fear Allah and observe the rights of his wife when he became preoccupied with worship and neglected her. He warned against abandoning one's wife in this manner, fearing her deviation. It is absolutely impermissible for a husband to engage in masturbation, as it is forbidden.

The questioner must repent for his negligence in prayer and in fulfilling his wife's rights, and for engaging in masturbation. The conditions for repentance are: abandoning the sin, regretting it, and resolving never to return to it. It is also advised to consult psychiatrists for the problem of staying up late and insomnia, and to turn to Allah Almighty and increase in acts of worship.
