Is it permissible to wipe over the leather socks (khuffayn) when performing ablution (wudu') for the purpose of lightening the ritual impurity (janabah)?

A light ablution (wudu') for janabah (major ritual impurity) does not permit wiping over the leather socks (khuffayn), because a condition for the validity of wiping is that they must be worn after a state of purity. So, whoever wears them after janabah, or becomes in a state of janabah while wearing them, it is not permissible for him to wipe over them. He must remove them due to janabah, based on the hadith of Safwan ibn 'Assal (may Allah be pleased with him): "Nor would we take them off except for janabah."
