A woman is not permitted to leave her home without her husband's permission. The fundamental principle is that she should remain in her home, based on Allah's saying: "And abide in your houses." The husband is advised not to prevent his wife from going out for permissible recreation for herself and her children, provided there is no fitnah (temptation/strife) involved, while observing Islamic guidelines such as proper covering (sitra) and avoiding intermingling [with unrelated men]. This is part of the good companionship enjoined by Allah. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The best of you is the best to his family."
