The answer

Marital life is based on affection and mercy. Spouses should forgive each other for any shortcomings or mistakes that may occur. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade a husband from hating his wife and advised him to look at her good qualities in contrast to her flaws, so that their companionship may last and rights may be fulfilled.

Shouting over food and fabricating problems because of it is not part of "living together in kindness" (معاشرة بالمعروف), and it contradicts the noble prophetic guidance. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, never criticized any food; if he desired it, he would eat it, and if not, he would leave it.

Whoever is served food that he dislikes should adopt this noble prophetic characteristic. There is no harm in offering gentle advice to the wife if the food is flawed, using a calm demeanor and a gentle nature, without causing disturbance or annoyance.
