Is the divorce of the mother from the father, after 28 years of continuous problems, a solution and a good outcome for the mother and the son, especially since the son wishes to leave the home to free himself from forbidden practices and to complete his studies and work, and wishes to take his mother with him so she may rest from these problems?

You are not sinful for disliking your father due to his actions, as long as this heartfelt dislike does not extend to words or deeds. This is because inner thoughts are not held against a person, as Allah Almighty says: "Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred," and as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah has pardoned for my Ummah their mistakes, their forgetfulness, and what they are forced to do."

You must be keen to be dutiful to your father and treat him kindly, and beware of harming him, lest you fall into disobedience. The right of a father is that his child treat him kindly, even if he misbehaves.

If your mother is harmed by your father's ill-treatment, she has the right to seek divorce due to harm. Divorce is preferable if cohabitation becomes impossible and the legitimate objectives of marriage are not achieved. Not every divorce is a misfortune; rather, it can be a blessing.

You are permitted to move and reside wherever you wish; you are not obligated to stay in your father's house. This is because an adult is not subject to custody, and he has the choice to reside with whichever of his parents he wishes. If he is a man, he may live independently.

It is not permissible for you to help your father in cultivating cannabis or to consume from his money earned from it, except out of necessity, as it is a type of forbidden narcotic. You are not obligated to obey your father if he prevents you from studying, working, or maintaining kinship ties; obedience is only in what is good.

It is recommended to advise your father with gentleness and kindness, and you can seek assistance from people of virtue and goodness to advise him.
