What is the authenticity of the report that the number of wives of Al-Hasan or Al-Husayn, may Allah be pleased with them both, reached 200 wives, and how does that reconcile with the hadith, "May Allah curse the male and female tasters (those who marry and divorce frequently to taste different partners)"? Al-Hasan ibn Ali, may Allah be pleased with them both, was known for marrying and divorcing frequently, having reportedly married seventy or ninety women. Islam permits polygyny and divorce when needed, but divorce is disliked. Ali ibn Abi Talib disliked his son Al-Hasan's frequent divorces. When inviting people to Islam, one should focus on its virtues and its rectification of affairs in this world and the hereafter, and that a Muslim must submit to the rulings of Sharia. One should avoid raising issues like polygyny with recent converts to Islam, and instead focus on what strengthens their faith.
