How can a Muslim balance the commitment to growing a beard with the social or familial pressures he may face that could affect his dawah or relationships?

You bear no sin if you disobey your mother when she commands disobedience to Allah. Indeed, you must not obey her, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There is no obedience in disobedience to Allah; obedience is only in what is right." You should supplicate for her and discuss matters with her kindly, and ask righteous people to pray for her guidance. Explain to your mother that adherence to the religion is a source of honor, success, victory, and security, and that her fears regarding adherence are whispers from Satan. Pay attention to your appearance and use perfume in a manner that does not violate the Sharia, and treat your mother gently, explaining to her that rigidity is blameworthy, citing the hadith: "Make things easy and do not make them difficult; give glad tidings and do not repel." And clarify to her that blameworthy rigidity means exaggeration that leads to boredom, and that ease means taking permissible dispensations, not negligence.
