Is it permissible for a wife to refuse to sleep with her husband if she feels pain and fear of intercourse?
A wife must answer her husband's call to bed unless she is truly harmed or occupied with a duty. If she is ill or if intercourse would cause her pain, then she has an excuse. In this case, the husband should understand her condition, and she should strive to seek treatment. If her illness is prolonged, her husband has the choice between being patient or marrying another.
If her feeling of phobia is merely a psychological issue, she must resist it and seek help from a female psychiatrist to overcome this feeling, knowing her husband's right over her and her duty to keep them both chaste, and fearing Allah's wrath, due to the Prophet (peace be upon him) saying: "If a man calls his wife to his bed and she refuses, and he spends the night angry with her, the angels curse her until morning."
