Is a husband entitled to force his wife to perform arduous work in a commercial olive grove? Is this work among her duties? And is she entitled to refuse, especially given a health excuse (hand allergy) and the difficulty of reconciling this with her household duties?

Marital life should be built on cooperation, understanding, and compassion. The wife should obey her husband in what is right and not neglect her duties towards her home and children. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, encouraged obedience to the husband, and work within the home is a duty upon the wife. The wife's obligation to obey her husband is exempted if he commands her to commit a sin, or to do something she cannot bear or that would harm her.
