Is it permissible for one who denounces evil to strive and denounce it with his hand, even if he believes he will be killed, by analogy with the action of Abraham (peace be upon him) in smashing the idols and his father's threat to kill him: "I will surely stone you, so leave me for a long time"?

Denouncing evil with the hand is conditional upon ability. If the one denouncing fears death or harm, then it is permissible for him not to denounce it and to suffice with denouncing it in the heart. However, it is permissible to proceed with it if the removal of the evil is hoped for. Also, the assessment of denouncing evil in this situation depends on ijtihad (independent reasoning), and it may be recommended or forbidden depending on the benefit and harm. If it has no effect or if the harm extends to others besides the denouncer, then it is forbidden. This domain is specific to scholars capable of assessing benefits and harms, and it is not permissible for common people to delve into it except in clear evils.
