The criteria for acceptance and rejection in marriage are religiosity and good character, as stated in the Hadith. Therefore, the guardian of the girl should marry her to a righteous man who will help her in goodness and piety, and raise the family in an Islamic manner. Among the rights of the wife is maintenance in a reasonable manner. If the suitor is religious, intelligent, trustworthy, and has what suffices for maintenance, he should not be rejected, even if he does not have a job.
