What is the ruling regarding a wife who committed adultery or was assaulted and became pregnant, and what are the implications of that for the husband and the family? Should the husband divorce her or conceal her [fault]? Is he sinful in that? What should he do concerning the perpetrator if he knows him? What if she was negligent in the matter? Can she continue to live with him thereafter? Is this a punishment from Allah for her? And does the Prophet's saying to Aisha, "If you have committed any sin, then seek Allah's forgiveness," imply forgiveness for her if she committed adultery without witnesses?

Adultery is a major sin, and your wife committed a transgression, whether she felt pleasure or not. Her not defending herself out of fear of scandal is not an excuse. She is also sinful for accusing her relative of adultery without proof. She must repent and conceal herself, and you must conceal her. You should not divorce her or delve into the details, and you do not have the right to kill the aggressor or take him to court unless you have four witnesses. The sin is on the wife as long as she was able to resist. There is no sin on the husband unless his absence from her exceeded six months and she was not content. He can live with her as long as she has repented. Abortion is forbidden, and she is liable for blood money and expiation if the abortion occurred after forty days of the fetus being in her womb.
